My grandmother used to fry with lard and she was a great cook. I have childhood memories of really enjoying the food she made. In fact, I’m sure she ate food prepared with lard all her life but never had any heart problems. What did she have problems with? Diabetes — probably from overconsumption of sugar. According to this article in the San Francisco Chronicle, lard is actually better for us than butter and certainly better for us than Crisco. A healthy lifestyle is really about moderation in everything, though.
