The botanical name of this shrub/small tree is ilex vomitoria and it is a native plant of Mississippi. This photo was taken in December of 2020 in south Jasper County, Mississippi — just north of the Jones County line and not far from now semi-famous small town, Laurel, Mississippi.
Apparently, Yaupon Holly leaves and can be used to make an herbal tea which is caffeinated and it can be purchased online at MississippiTea.com.
